The Spanish Steps climb a steep incline between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinita. Its 138 steps were built in 1725, connecting the Bourbon Spanish Embassy with the Holy Church, which is still situated in Palazzo Monaldeschi, below the Trinita dei Monti. Around Christmas, a 19th-Century crib is exhibited on the Spanish Steps' first landing. In the month of May, some of the Spanish Steps are decorated with azaleas, and sometimes there's a flower market here -- however, this isn't a place to sit and eat lunch, which is actually illegal!
