Transport
Moving around in Madrid
One can take the 15 km route from Barajas airport to central Madrid either by taxi or by metro.
METRO
Metro is the fastest and safest way to move around in Madrid. While a single metro ticket costs 1.00€, it’s better to buy a ticket for ten journeys which comes for 6.40€. Metro tickets can be used for bus journeys and are valid upon the journey’s duration irrespective of distance travelled. If you opt for a taxi instead, then you can hail one displaying “Libre” or a green light at night. The taxi meter always shows 1.95€ as the minimum charge when activated.
TAXI
A taxi is one of the most convenient mode of transport from Barajas Airport to central Madrid, it takes 20 to 40 minutes on average depending on the traffic and costs about 25€. There is a 5 Euro surcharge for all trips to and from the airport.
Travelling out of Madrid
There are two main railway stations which serve Madrid from and to the regions. These are Atocha and Charmartin. Coaches provide a cheaper alternative and they are more frequent than trains. There are many coach companies providing coaches departing out of various locations from Madrid.
