An ancient stronghold, Edinburgh Castle is one of the major landmarks of the Scottish capital, which is dominating the skyline as it is positioned on the top of the Castle Rock. The Edinburgh Castle is one of the most important fortresses in the Kingdom of Scotland and has the centre of many historical conflicts like the Scottish Independence Wars and the Jacobite Rising. Interesting to be seen here are St. Margaret's Chapel which is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, the Great Hall and the Royal Palace. The castle is today hosting the Scottish National War Memorial and the National War Museum of Scotland.
