City Information: Situated on the magnificent St John’s River, Jacksonville is sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the forests of Florida and has been settled by Europeans since the earliest days of America’s discovery, first the Spanish and then the French and eventually the British and then Spanish again prior to being ceded to the United States in 1821. Jacksonville was named for the first military governor of Florida, Andrew Jackson, who never actually visited the city, and is first recorded under that name in 1822.

The city today is a pleasantly clean and modern city which is a major centre of the financial industry as well as being a major port city. Being a port city has given the city a uniquely cosmopolitan flavor which means that always any taste in food is catered for.
