An introduction to Krakow
Krakow is one of the oldest cities in Poland, dating back to the seventh century. It is located on the Vistula River and is the second largest of the country's cities. Beautiful architecture, extensive collections of artworks and ancient charm await those who travel to this well-preserved city. It is also one of the more affordable places to visit in Europe, with tourists able to find cheap cuisine, local beers and holiday apartments without having to look too hard.
Krakow in brief
Krakow is located in Lesser Poland, a historical region in the south of the country. It was the capital of Poland between the 11th and 16th centuries and remains one of the most significant centres of academic, cultural and artistic life. The city itself is home to about 760,000 people and some 7.3 million tourists passed through in 2009. Most come to sense centuries' worth of history, while many also make the short journey to the former Nazi concentration camp at nearby Auschwitz.
What not to miss
Krakow has much to offer visitors, including a large number of historical monuments. Here are some attractions that should definitely make the short-list:
Market Square - The main square is located in the centre of the city's Old Town. Dating back to the 13th century, it is the largest medieval town square in Europe and is surrounded by historic buildings, including townhouses, palaces and churches. The impressive Renaissance-style Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) cannot be missed in the centre of the square, while the Gothic towers of St Mary's Basilica tower above the square.
Wawel Castle - This Gothic castle was built in the 14th century and is of great cultural significance. Poland's kings lived in the castle for centuries, but it is now a leading art museum, featuring paintings, sculptures, tapestries and much more.
National Art Museum - This museum houses approximately 780,000 objects of art, ranging from classical archaeological pieces to modern art.
Wieliczka salt mine - The salt mine was built in the 13th century and produced salt until 2007. It now features statues, chapels and even an entire cathedral carved from rock salt. The mine is located in the town of Wieliczka, not far from Krakow, and attracts approximately 1.2 million people each year.
How to get to the city
Most international visitors arrive in Krakow via the John Paul II International Airport, which is located 11km away from the city. The journey from the airport to the city is easy thanks to direct trains which take just 15 minutes to cover the ground.
When to go
The most pleasant times of year to visit Krakow are widely felt to be spring and autumn. At these times the weather is mild, but the city is not completely overrun with tourists. Those visiting in the winter months will find the city cold but beautiful.
If you're planning a trip to Poland, why not take a look at our holiday apartments in Krakow? We offer high quality accommodation in key central locations that is often much more affordable than staying in a hotel.

The apartment at Dietla 75 street is well situated. In about 10 minutes of walking you end-up in Rynek Główny (Old central square). The apartment is equipped with a kitchen, a washing machine and a rack to hang your clothing to get them dry. That is perfect for a long stay.
Also in the same building, there a restaurant which makes good food at a good price too, the entrance is on the street Świętego Sebastiana number 25.
One more great thing is within 15 minutes of walking, you have two big shopping mall, the Galeria Kazimierz at the address Podgórska 34 and the Galeria Krakowska at the address Pawia 5. If you need a Polish SIM card for your cell phone at Galeria Kazimierz, there a Orange cell phone store with English service.

I like the great space in the Royal Apartment. It is very clear, very elegant. The mineral water is a great surprise. The well-equiped kitchen is very good. The bedlinens were very comfortable and clean, thank you!

Mycket fin lägenhet som ligger centralt i gamla stan. Nära kommunikationer, affärer och restauranger. Enda nackdelen var att det inte fanns hiss.

We met with the office staff on a couple of occasions. They were particularly helpful and very pleasant to deal with.
This is the third time that I have stayed in the Dietla apartment complex with you (2003, 2007 previously), each time for one week. The apartments are great, and very comfortable, and I would stay with you again in a heartbeat.
The addition of the lift was particularly appreciated!

Olivier France, stayed in Krakow, 08/08/2014-15/08/2014
Both apartments, especially INdustrial, were decorated very nicely. The bathroom facilities in both were fantastic. They were located in a great neighborhood and the building itself was fairly quiet. And they were very reasonably priced.

I loved the location at Rynek Glowny 34. Just off the main square but far enough back so that there was no noise. It was quaint. The bedroom in the loft was certainly unique.

Miejsce w najbliższej odległości do niemal wszystkiego: Kluby jazzowy (trzy pietra niżej), sklep spożywczy 24 kroki od bramy, bar kanapkowy 22 kroki, Rynek Główny ... w lewo do końca ulicy itd. :) Polecamy

Having an elevator made life much easier with heavy luggage! The location was excellent being between Old Town and Jewish District. The apartment is beautifully designed, wifi worked no problem. Though we didn't need the couch as a bed as there were only 2 of us, it would be comfortable as a bed for a third person.
Bernatt UnitedStates, stayed in Krakow, 08/05/2014-10/05/2014
I especially liked that The unit was very close to the old city and everything was only a few minutes walk away. The unit was warm and the rooms were very generous in size. I liked also having the little table and chairs outside the door, it was nice to have a cup of tea there when the sun was out. The bathroom was very modern and stayed warm.
